Well I decided not to waste another few hours of my life reading so decided to explore the compound.
I started with a swim at 9.00 Looks idyllic but as ever looks here are decieving.
It wasn’t refreshing just like getting in to hot chlorine bath water. In fact it is showing as a water temperature of 33C so no wonder. The pool was totally quiet apart from the pregnant ex-pat wives doing aquaerobics chat and rumourmongering club.
Around 9.30 I went to Costa as the wifi there seems to allow me to use the work VPN which will not operate from the lines in the villas. I managed a Work logon but just got travel comments mails to fill in so wasn’t really worth the effort.
As you can see Costa’s ourdoor area was mobbed.
I did find out that Men three cups of Coffee a day are 18% less likely to die. Nothing to do with caffeine just coffee apparently. 18% less likely than what I don’t know but I had a coffee in case.
I did also find a retro games area. Very authentic as most of the games were out of use.
I also checked out the walls. Not sure if they are to keep others out or me in but both seem to be working combined with 51 degree temperatures. They are tastefully screened with live green trees though which mask the searchlights and cameras a bit.
Today I was also tasked to find car hire. Driving is no fun out here and it’s being suggested we should not drive or at least not alone. I shall have to wait to see what happens on the driving front.
The reception told me to go to the Travel agent who said they get cars form Hanco who when I walked ten minutes to them in 51 degree heat were shut. Oh well at least I had more of a tour of the prison walls.
I don’t watch weather any more it’s always hot and humid, just degrees of it – today is rumoured to be 51c max 33c min according to the forecast and I have to tell you it feels hotter. Instead of the weather I am now officially “In relationship” with my air con
We love to do the Air con dance I turn her on she cools me down too much I turn her off and get overheated. In the bedroom she keeps me awake and is just too noisy so I turn her on all day and turn her off at night. I did however just go to turn off the aircon but changed the TV channel instead.
Another hot chlorine dip this afternoon and apparently I now have a permanent base pass awaiting me. Not sure if I should laugh or cry but at least no more hours of gatehouse fun.
I do also have a working phone in the villa now and 4 more hangers – I only had 2 before. Little things make me happy. I can hang up my trousers now.
